Maria Jose Esquivel Losada
MARÍA JOSÉ ESQUIVEL LOSADA grew up in Stamford, Connecticut, and began her training at the Ballet School of Stamford. She continued training in the Vaganova Technique at Greenwich Ballet Academy under Yuri Vodolaga, and later at Koltun Ballet Boston under Alexandra Koltun and Alexander Lapshin. She participated in several summer intensives and received the First Place scholarship at the Bolshoi Ballet Summer Intensive in 2017. Esquivel Losada was accepted into the Joffrey Ballet (Chicago) Trainee Program in 2016, and after two years was promoted to the Studio Company in 2018. During her time there she performed in main company productions of Christopher Wheeldon’s The Nutcracker, Swan Lake and Giselle, and Jerome Robbins’ Glass Pieces in Les Etés de la Danse Paris at La Seine Musicale. She also originated roles in new works like Claudia Schreier’s First Light for the Winning Works Choreographic Competition. Esquivel Losada joined Atlanta Ballet 2 for the 2019-2020 and later danced as an apprentice from 2020-2022. During her time with Atlanta Ballet she performed featured roles in Yuri Possokhov’s The Nutcracker and Firebird and also performed in classical ballets such as Giselle and Paquita. From 2022-2024 she performed as a Company Artist with the Indianapolis Ballet, where she debuted several soloist roles including Melancholic Demis in George Balanchine’s The Four Temperaments, Russian Demis in George Balanchine’s Serenade, and Princess Florine in The Sleeping Beauty. She also enjoyed performing in Rubies by George Balanchine and most recently, Romeo and Juliet by Septime Webre, in collaboration with the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra.
Esquivel Losada is an ABT® Certified Teacher for Levels Pre-Primary - Level 3 and while at Indianapolis Ballet she taught for the Indianapolis School of Ballet and coached for YAGP, with a student placing in the Top 24. She has enjoyed coming back to teach in the Greenwich Ballet Academy Summer Intensives year after year, and is excited to have joined the faculty full time starting Fall 2024.
