The Greenwich Ballet Academy recently participated in the annual Connecticut Classic Ballet Scholarship competition sponsored by the Connecticut Dance Alliance, held March 28 and 29. After their exceptional performances, GBA participants were honored with some of the competition’s most prestigious scholarships and awards.
Phoebe Anderson received the “Raising the Barre” award for outstanding participation during the master classes. Nio Hirano was offered a summer intensive scholarship at the prestigious Interlochen Center for the Arts. Located in Michigan, Interlochen hosts thousands of artists to experience world-class educational and cultural opportunities. Additionally, Emma Kelly was awarded a Hartt School Dance Division/ University of Hartford $44,000 College Scholarship and a Gaynor Mynden sponsorship certificate.
“We are very excited about the opportunities that have been offered to our dancers as a direct result of their hard work and training at GBA,” said Marisol Rivera Thurman, President and Chairman of the Board for Greenwich Ballet Academy. “And we are proud of the way they represent themselves and the academy.” All of the GBA students worked hard to prepare for the competition, as did the parent organizers, Leann Kelly and Lisa Sobieri.
