Heidi Sontag began dancing at age five in Pennsylvania. After her family moved to Arizona she studied at Ballet Arizona, Arizona State University, Profile for Dance, Camelback Dance Theater and performed professionally, with the Elayne Nueman Dance Company and Desert Dance Theater while in Phoenix. She also completed credit coursework in dance programs at Reed College (Portland, OR) and at CalState Long Beach.
Upon graduation from high school, she majored in modern dance at SUNY Purchase, studied at the Alvin Ailey American Dance Center (now known as The Alvin Ailey School), The Joffrey Ballet, and with Murray Louis. Heidi eventually returned to school to major in Biology. Once Heidi’s interest turned to teaching, she combined her interest in dance with her desire to get children of all abilities moving!
Experience and continued study have led Heidi to develop a clear and precise syllabus for the young dancer. The program is designed to form the basis of a healthy and fun relationship with dance, movement and physical activity for years to come. She is happy to bring her New Dance Movement and Dance syllabus to the Early Prep Program at GBA.
She has received awards and scholarships from The Alvin Ailey American Dance Center, The National Society of Arts and Letters (Empire State Chapter), The Michio Ito Award, The Camelback Scholarship Fund, Westchester Womens’ News Forty Under Forty, Westchester Magazine and many others.
