With a solid base in classical ballet and experience in many modern styles, Rebecca Rice's choreography contributes a unique blend
of modernism and musicality. From the beginnings of her professional career when she co-founded and performed in Pittsburgh's influential
Dance Alloy company, through her work with Bill Evans, Jose Limon, the Laban method, ballet and more, Rebecca Rice has been a sought-after
and highly respected modern dance choreographer, teacher and performer. She has created numerous works on Boston Ballet II, her company,
Rebecca Rice Dance, and organized Boston Ballet Company's first choreography workshops and performances, as well as created original
choreography on the professional track students at the Boston Ballet School and Summer Dance Programs for ten years. She performed
her own dance work in France and throughout the United States, receiving many awards and grants including a recent Artist Grant in
Choreography from the Massachusetts Cultural Council.
Rebecca Rice and her choreography has been performed throughout the United
States, Canada and France. Her work has been produced by the Boston Ballet, World Music, Dance Alloy, Green Street Studios, Studio

Dance Festival, Commonwealth Ballet, Boston Dance Company, Cynthia Merrill Dance and Choreographers Group. In August 2004, Rebecca's
group (www.rebeccaricedance.com) was invited to perform at the Inside Out Series of the internationally re-owned Jacob's Pillow Dance
Festival. She has collaborated with such major artists as Martin Cooper, Vice-President Design, Burberry's NYC (Altis Ballet), Grayson
Hugh (Crosscurrents), Martin Case (Array and Midstream) Emmanuel Feldman (Bach Dances and Stratas). In 2003, her performances received
the Best of Boston awards from both the Boston Herald and the Boston Phoenix. Tedd Bale of the Boston Herald says Rebecca's work is
"extraordinary...inventive...stunning".
Rebecca spent her early years as a student of classical ballet and Denishawn Dance,
training in Massachusetts with her grandmother, Marion Rice, who studied and performed with Ruth St. Denis and Ted Shawn. Her focus
gravitated then to contemporary modern dance, working with Bill Evans, Utah Repertory Dance Theater and Mark Morris, and at the Limon
School and Viola Farber in New York City. She performed in NYC and elsewhere with independent companies and artists, including Gerri
Houlihan, Stephen Pelton, Bill Evans and Marianne Goldberg, as well as studied the art of choreography at Jacob's Pillow with Bessie
choenberg. Rebecca received her BFA in modern dance at the University of Utah where she worked intensively with Bill Evans and her
MA from the University of PGH on a graduate teaching assistant scholarship. From 1985-2002, she created and directed the dance department
at the Dana Hall School and has been on faculty with Boston Ballet and MIT since 1992 where she works in modern and choreography.
Rebecca was recently awarded an Artist Membership at the St. Botolph Club in Boston.
